The central celebration of the International Day of the Danube has commenced today in Belgrade, marking the revitalization of the Ada Huja island. Secretary General of the European Commission for Danube Philip Weller has stated that he is satisfied with Serbia exerting effort to preserve the central section of the Danube. Especially important is the joint effort of the government institutions, local communities and all citizens, in order to preserve the Danube, said Weller. Director of the Republican Directorate for water management Aleksandar Prodanovic has stated that the Danube hold big economic potential, because it connects Serbia to Austria and Germany.
