
The European Commission has put it clear that Eulex will continue having a key role in encouraging the rule of the law in Kosovo regardless of the International Steering Group’s decision to end the supervised independence of Kosovo, the spokesperson of EU High Representative Cathrine Ashton, Maja Kocijancic, said. The rule of the law is a priority for Eulex on the basis of a mandate supported by all the 27 EU member-states and local legislation, she said. Asked if that means that the Eulex mandate will be built into a Kosovo constitution, as some media claim, Kocijančić said that the legal basis would be in line with that constitution and supported by it
