The delegates in the European Parliament have passed the Resolution on the Serbian progress in European integrations, asking that the date of negotiations on Serbia’s association with the EU be set as soon as possible, but also inviting Belgrade to refrain from scheduling local elections in Kosmet. The resolution was adopted by the overwhelming majority – only 49 out of 754 delegates voted against it, and the only amendment that changed the text of the resolution was the one about the elections in Kosmet, as submitted by EP Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin. This amendment reads that the holding of the local elections in Kosmet “would be contrary to the international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1244.” The majority of MPs have assessed that Belgrade should normalize relations with Pristina and intensify the work on reforms and battle against corruption. The document contains positive remarks on the cooperation of Serbia with the Hague Tribunal, internal reforms and improved regional cooperation.
