World tennis player no. 1, Serbian player Novak Đoković, lost to Spanish player Rafael Nadal 6:4, 6:3, 2:6, 7:5 in the French Open finals. The match began on Sunday, but was interrupted by rain and resumed on Monday. Nadal won the first two sets, but Djokovic won the third – however, when the match resume, Nadal played better and won the match finishing the fourth set. This was the 33rd duel between the Nadal’s seventh victory at Roland Garros.
The Serbian national men’s volleyball team finished the International Qualifications tournament in Tokyo with the maximal result of seven victories, having lost one set only. In the last, seventh round, Serbia beat Venezuela 3:0, after 63 minutes. Serbia’s placement for the Olympics in London was secured as early as on Saturday, June 9, in the last round but one, when they beat the Iranian team, whereas their victory against Venezuela was the sixth maximal one in Tokyo. After Tokyo, they are leaving for Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, where they will be playing the matches of the second weekend of Group A grupe of the World League. The tournament, although hosted by Cuba, is held in Santo Domingo because the renovation of the sports hall in Havana is not over yet.
In Lodz, Poland, the Serbian national women’s volleyball team beat Italy 3:0 in the third round of the Grand Prix tournament. Prior to that, they lost to Poland (3:2) and Brazil (3:2). The match in Lodz lasted 67 minutes only and the most efficient players in our team were Brankica Mihajlović with 15 points, Milena Rašić – 13 points, and Jovana Brakočević with 12 points. Serbia is hosting the next three matches within Group H, with Cuba, Turkey and Argentina respectively, due in Belgrade from 15 to 17 June. Our team currently takes up the sixth position at the Grand Prix tournament, with 5 points.
The Red Star basketball team, Belgrade, beat another Belgrade team, Partizan 68:56, in the second match of the Serbian Super League finals, thereby attaining a draw in the series, 1:1. The third match of the finals is due on Tuesday, 12 June.
